  • Albanian and Serbian are official languages with equal status at the central government level.

  • Turkish has official status in some municipalities such as Prizren, Mamushë, and Lipjan, regardless of the number of speakers, and is also used in other municipalities like Pristina, Gjilan, Mitrovica, etc.

  • Bosnian and Romani have official status at the municipal level where their communities constitute at least 5% of the population.

  • The Law on the Use of Languages (2006) establishes equal use of Albanian and Serbian in central institutions and regulates the status of other languages at the local level based on community percentage.

  • In practice, full implementation of the law is often lacking, and official documents are not always available in both official languages.

Official Currency

  • The euro is the de facto official currency in Kosovo since 2002, although Kosovo is not a member of the Eurozone or the European Union.

  • The euro is used due to the absence of a national currency after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the recent conflict.

  • Kosovo does not have a central bank issuing currency; it uses euro banknotes and coins issued by the European Central Bank.
